Swami Sivananda Saraswati

Born on September 8th, 1887, in Tamil Nadu, India, this remarkable individual served as a doctor in Malaysia. His inner calling made him seek spiritual enlightenment in Rishikesh. Known as Swami, he became a revered spiritual teacher, inspiring and transforming people worldwide through his teachings and presence.

  • He was initiated into the Dashnami (Saraswati) order of Sannyasa in March 1924 by Swami Vishwananda Saraswati.
  • Established the Satya Sevashram Dispensary in 1925.
  • Toured extensively throughout India, inspiring people to practise yoga and lead a spiritual life.
  • Founded the Divine Life Society at Rishikesh in 1936.
  • Opened the Sivananda Ayurvedic Pharmacy in 1945.
  • Established the Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy in 1948.
  • Opened Yoga Forest Academy Press in 1951.
  • Authoured over 200 books on Yoga, health and spiritual life.
  • Convened the World Parliament of Religions at Rishikesh in 1953.
  • Established the Sivananda Eye Hospital in 1957.
  • Formed the Sivananda Literature Research Institute in 1958.
  • Attained Mahasamadhi at Rishikesh in 1963.

Swami Satyananda Saraswati

A visionary of the modern yogic and tantric renaissance. He was born in 1923 in the foothills of the Himalayas. At the age of nineteen, he left home in search of spiritual truth. His guru Swami Sivananda Saraswati of Rishikesh initiated him into sannyasa in 1943. For twelve years, he served his guru and gained deeper understanding of spirituality. 

  • Travelled length and breadth of the Indian sub-continent for nine years as a wandering ascetic, to assess the needs of modern man.
  • Founded the International Yoga Fellowship Movement at Rajnandgaon in 1956.
  • Founded the Bihar School of Yoga at Munger in 1963.
  • Conducted numerous programmes for training sannyasins and householders alike in the techniques of yoga; toured internationally, propagating yoga among people countries, races and religions.
  • Authored over 80 books on yoga and spirituality.
  • Founded Sivananda Math, a social and charitable institution at Munger, now functioning in Rikhia.
  • Renounced all that he had created in 1988, and led the life of Paramahamsa Sannyasin.
  • He went on a pilgrimage through the siddha teerthas (spiritual centres) of India as a mendicant.
  • On completion of his pilgrimage he arrived at Rikhia on 23rd September 1989. He lit a dhuni or fire and called it Mahakal Chita Dhuni and Sri Swamiji undertook the vow of panchagni, the five-fire austerity.
  • From 1991 onwards, Sivananda Math undertook all sorts of charity work for the upliftment of neighbours (villagers).
  • In 2009, after participating and giving darshan during Sat Chandi Mahayajna and Yoga Poornima he entered into Mahasamadhi on the midnight of 5th December and merged into Sri Swami Sivananda Saraswati, our Sadguru.

Swami Vajrapani Saraswati

Initiated with the Yogic Name of Swami Vajrapani Saraswati by Parahamsa Swami Satyananda Saraswati. Associated with the Bihar School of Yoga for more than five decades.

  • He is also Board Member of Bihar School of Yoga, Munger.
  • Recognized as the “Golden Swamiji” by Bihar School of Yoga’s at Golden Jubilee Celebrations 2013.
  • Swamiji is a direct student and disciple of the Yoga Pioneer, Swami Satyananda Sarawati. He has spent many of his years under the direct tutelage of the Swami Satyananda.
  • Founded Shiv Darshan Yoga Vidyalaya Chennai in 1992.
  • Specializes in the field of Meditation and Japa.
  • Maintenance of Gaushala for the abandoned and stray cows.

Swami Gambhirananda Saraswati

Initiated with the Yogic Name of Swami Gambhirananda Saraswati by Parahamsa Swami Satyananda Saraswati. Associated with the Bihar School of Yoga from 1981.

  • Swamiji is a direct student and disciple of the Yoga Pioneer, Swami Satyananda Sarawati. She has received direct guidance and instructions from His holiness Swami Satyananda Saraswati.
  • Managing Trustee and Acharya of Shiv Darshan Yoga Vidyalaya from inception.
  • Passionate about Yogic Therapy and Healing.
  • Shiv Darshan Yoga Vidyalaya has received the recognition as an Yoga therapy and research institiute from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR of Government of India).
